Tormod Alnæs (1921–2003) was a Norwegian interior architect and furniture designer associated with functionalism and post-war Scandinavian design. Educated at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo, his work combined functionality, structural experimentation and an expressive use of wood, steel, canvas and leather.

Among his best-known designs is the Pony chair, presented at the 1954 Milan Triennale, where it received a Diplôme d’Honneur. Alnæs also collaborated with Norwegian manufacturer Sørlie Møbler, designing the Toga, Trega and Cabin lounge chairs. With its wooden frame and suspended seat, the Trega chair is a distinctive example of Norwegian furniture design from the 1960s and 1970s.

Alongside his professional practice, Alnæs played an important role in design education and the promotion of Norwegian design. He received the prestigious Jacob Prize in 1971 and became Norway’s first professor of furniture and interior architecture in 1988. Today, vintage Tormod Alnæs furniture represents an innovative and highly functional side of Norwegian modern design.
