Philippe Starck: French Furniture and Product Designer

Philippe Starck (born in Paris in 1949) is one of the most influential French designers in contemporary design. His work spans furniture, lighting, everyday objects, architecture and interior design, combining functionality, innovation and a distinctive sense of humour.

Since the 1980s, Philippe Starck has collaborated with leading international manufacturers including Kartell, Alessi, Driade, Flos, Vitra and Cassina. His best-known designs include the Juicy Salif citrus squeezer for Alessi, the Louis Ghost chair for Kartell and the Miss Balù table, also produced by Kartell.

Starck’s furniture is recognised for its expressive forms, innovative use of industrial materials and ability to transform functional objects into instantly recognisable designs. Today, vintage Philippe Starck furniture is sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of 1980s and 1990s postmodern design.
