More about Albano Poli

Albano Poli is an Italian artist and lighting designer renowned for his sculptural glass lamps for Poliarte. Born in Verona in 1935, he studied at the Napoleone Nani Art School before establishing his own artistic workshop in 1953.During the 1960s and 1970s, Poli developed a distinctive approach to Italian lighting design, combining thick textured glass with steel, aluminium and other metals. His lamps blur the boundary between functional lighting and illuminated sculpture, creating dramatic effects through colour, texture, shadow and refracted light.Among Albano Poli’s best-known designs for Poliarte are the Eclisse lamp from 1968 and the Astro, Tauru, Lacerta and Rottura Spaziale models from 1974. His table lamps, wall lights, floor lamps and illuminated panels are closely associated with Italian Brutalism and Mid-Century Modern design.Vintage Albano Poli lamps are now sought after by collectors and interior designers for their architectural forms, handcrafted character and expressive use of glass. His work remains an important reference in collectible Italian lighting from the 1960s and 1970s.
