He studied at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris before establishing his own design studio in 1957.In 1959, Fermigier co-founded the Meubles et Fonction gallery with Pierre Perrigault, helping promote modern French design. Throughout his career, he collaborated with manufacturers including Disderot, Airborne, Steiner, Sentou, Roset and Mirima.
